After receiving multiple complaints regarding the canteen’s unhygienic practices, the Health Department conducted a surprise raid at the Allen Institute in Shilaj, Ahmedabad on June 26, 2024. During the inspection, officials discovered inedible food being stored and served to students.
Unlicensed Operation Uncovered
The inspection revealed that the canteen was operating without a valid license, raising concerns about the quality and safety of the food being served to the students. Among the appalling findings were a significant quantity of rotten tomatoes, unlabelled food items without expiry dates and an overall lack of cleanliness in the canteen premises. Students had previously raised concerns with the management, but their complaints were allegedly ignored.
Allegations of Contaminated Meals
Furthermore, students reported that the meals served in the canteen were contaminated with insects, posing a serious health risk to the student body. Despite repeated appeals to address the issue, the management reportedly failed to take adequate measures to ensure food safety and quality.
Heavy Fine Imposed on Allen Institute
Responding to the complaints and evidence of health violations, the Health Department imposed a substantial fine of one lakh on the Allen Institute.
