The revered chief priest, Acharya Laxmikant Dixit, who conducted the consecration ceremony at Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir, breathed his last on Saturday morning. Dixit, aged 86, had been unwell for several days. His final rites will be performed at the Manikarnika Ghat.
The consecration of Lord Ram’s idol took place at the Ayodhya temple on January 22, with Prime Minister Modi leading the momentous event.
Hailing from the ancient city of Varanasi, Dixit was counted among the senior scholars. Although originally from Solapur district in Maharashtra, his family had been residing in Varanasi for generations.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep sorrow over Dixit’s demise. In a heartfelt post on social media, he stated, “The passing of Acharya Shri Laxmikant Dixit, a distinguished scholar of Kashi and the chief priest of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Prana Pratishtha, is an irreplaceable loss to the spiritual and literary world.” Adityanath emphasized Dixit’s significant contributions to Sanskrit language and Indian culture.
He concluded, “May Lord Shri Ram grant a place to the departed soul at His feet, and may He provide strength to Dixit’s disciples and followers during this time of grief.”
