Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who is lodged in Sabarmati jail in Gujarat, made another video call that went viral on social media on Tuesday.
In the 19-second video, Bishnoi—the alleged mastermind behind the firing at actor Salman Khan’s residence in Mumbai and the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala—is seen allegedly talking about Eid with Pakistani gangster Shahzad Bhatti. Shahzad can be heard telling Bishnoi that Eid had already been celebrated in the UAE and other countries “today” and “falls in Pakistani tomorrow”.
The former Punjab minister and head of the Shiromani Akali Dal, Bikram Singh Majithia, has responded sharply to the video.
“Recently, Bishnoi wished Pakistani gangster Shahzad Bhatti on Eid from Gujarat Jail, demonstrating his ability to operate freely behind bars,” he wrote on X (formally Twitter).
“Earlier, notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi murdered Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala…Despite giving a live interview from Punjab Jail, Punjab’s CM and Home Minister Bhagwant Mann formed an SIT to investigate, but the probe shows ZERO RESULTS. His gang continues to threaten Salman Khan, with multiple attacks on Khan’s residence. Such activities pose significant risks to public safety when gangsters can act without restraint even while incarcerated.”
It is believed that Bishnoi is connected to many high-profile crimes, including extortion and murder.
Bishnoi reportedly gave two back-to-back interviews to a media outlet in March 2023 while he was in jail, leading Punjab Police to file two FIRs. The Punjab and Haryana High Court was informed by the state government in March of this year that the investigations into the two cases would require three more months to conclude.
“It is highly improbable that the interview of the suspect (Lawrence Bishnoi) had been conducted in any of the jails in the State of Punjab or within the State of Punjab when he was in police custody,” the Government informed the court in December 2023.
