The Ahmedabad Police on Wednesday said that they will use helium balloons with cameras inside to carry out surveillance during the annual Jagannath Rath Yatra on July 7, in addition to other security measures.
For this occasion, these balloons would be specifically imported from Kashmir.
The city police have started making preparations for the security of the yatra, as stated by Crime Branch JCP Sharad Singhal. Along the route, the crime branch team has already led a foot march, and local police have planned rehearsals and a bike rally.
With a monitoring range of about five kilometres, the helium surveillance balloons will be stationed at a height of 300 metres. The police officials are equipped with high-resolution day-night cameras connected to the control room, enabling police personnel to keep track of activities remotely.
The police have already designated installation locations for the balloons, which are anticipated to arrive in Ahmedabad in the next few days.
The balloons will be put up as soon as they arrive in the city, according to officials.
