The India Meteorological Department (IMD) made a significant announcement today, declaring the official arrival of the Southwest Monsoon 2024 in the state of Gujarat. Contrary to the IMD’s initial prediction of the monsoon’s arrival on June 15th, the monsoon made an early onset in South Gujarat today, June 11th.
Ramashray Yadav, the Regional Director in-charge of IMD Ahmedabad, confirmed the onset of the Southwest Monsoon until Navsari in South Gujarat. He further stated, “All the districts of Gujarat and the Saurashtra region are expected to experience light to moderate rain and thunderstorms during the next 24 hours.”
The IMD has forecasted light thunderstorms with lightning and surface winds of 30-40 kmph (in gusts), accompanied by light rain, at isolated places in all the districts of South Gujarat region on Wednesday. These districts include Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, as well as Daman, Dadara Nagar Haveli. Similar weather conditions are expected in the districts of North Gujarat region, namely Panchmahal, Dahod and Mahisagar and in the districts of Saurashtra, namely Amreli, Bhavnagar and Gir Somnath, as well as in Diu.
