Gujarat Police seized 13 unclaimed parcels of cocaine from a secluded place near Gandhidham, Kutch. The cocaine packets were hidden behind bushes of acacia. The police had taken help from the Forensic Science Laboratory ( FSL) to ascertain the identity and purity of the drugs. Each packet, weighing approximately 1 kg, is valued at an estimated price of Rs. 10 crore in the international market.
The Kutch coast of Gujarat is fast becoming a worry for the law enforcement agencies in the country. The capture of drugs in the area is happening at a regular frequency now. The area appears to have gained popularity among drug smugglers in recent times. Just nine months ago, in September 2023, the police had captured 80 kg of cocaine worth Rs. 800 crore from the nearby Mithirohar area.
The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) conducted an undercover search operation in Kharirohar, situated around ten kilometres away from Gandhidham. In this joint police operation, East Kutch Special Operations Group (SOG), Local Crime Branch (LCB), and Gandhidham B Division Police also took part. The police acted after receiving a tip-off.
The ATS team scanned the whole area with the help of the drone cameras to check if there was any presence of more drugs. The police operation continued to identify the potential involvement of people in drug trafficking.
