With Ahmedabad registering extreme temperatures this summer, the power demand also has picked up. Torrent Power, has informed that there has been an increase of 13% in electricity consumption in the city for the month of May over the same period last year.
In May 2023, the city consumed 95 crore units. In May 2024, consumption was 107.6 crore units. There has been an increase of 12.6 crore, amounting to almost 13%. Just between May 22nd and May 31st, Ahmedabad consumed 38.4 crore units.
The highest consumption in May 2023 was on May 26th, measuring 1856 megawatts. In May 2024, the peak was registered on May 23rd at 2144 megawatts. On May 22, Ahmedabad registered a temperature of 45.9 degrees Celsius. On May 23, the temperatures soared to 46.6 degrees.
With the peak months of summer coming to an end, experts believe that this year’s power demand will surpass all previous records.
The state has seen a significant increase in solar power generation. In April, ground-mounted solar panels generated 5,605MW, translating to 43.62 million units.
