The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted high temperatures and heatwave conditions in parts of Gujarat in the next five days.
On Monday and Tuesday, heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail in pockets in the districts of Surendranagar, Porbandar, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Anand, Banaskantha, Valsad, and in Kutch.
The heatwave is likely to increase heat illness symptoms in people who are either exposed to the sun for a long time or are doing heavy work. Vulnerable segments include infants, the elderly, and people with chronic diseases.
Tips to deal with heatwave
- Avoid heat exposure, especially between 12 noon and 4 pm.
- If you have to go out, wear caps, use an umbrella and sun glasses.
- Wear loose, light-coloured clothes to keep cool.
- Avoid dehydration. Drink sufficient water even if you are not thirsty.
- Consume ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution), homemade drinks like lassi, torani (rice water), lemon water and buttermilk to keep yourself hydrated.
