The Kyrgyz foreign ministry has assured that the situation was completely under control hours after the Indian mission in the country advised its nationals to stay indoors, following reports of mob violence targeting foreign students in Bishkek.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that he is monitoring the welfare of Indian students in Bishkek. “The situation is reportedly calm now. Strongly advise students to stay in regular touch with the Embassy,” he said.
The Kyrgyz government said about 15 locals sought medical check-ups and there were no deaths among foreign students. “From the moment information about the incident was received, law enforcement agencies of the Kyrgyz Republic took prompt measures to detain persons involved in the event, both foreign citizens and citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic,” the Kyrgyz foreign ministry said in a statement.
The Kyrgyz government said the situation was under the control of the security forces. “The safety of citizens and public order were ensured. There are no seriously injured people among those involved in the incident. About 15 citizens applied to medical institutions for examination,” the statement added. In the statement, the Kyrgyz government called on representatives of the media and foreign diplomatic missions “not to disseminate false and unverified information.”

Earlier, reports said several Pakistani students studying in Bishkek faced mob violence late Friday night, sustaining injuries. However, no deaths have been confirmed. The violence followed a brawl between foreign students, including Pakistanis, and Egyptian nationals.
“Deeply concerned over the situation of Pakistani students in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. I have directed Pakistan’s Ambassador to provide all necessary help and assistance. My office is also in touch with the Embassy and constantly monitoring the situation,” Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said in a post on X.
