Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday morning cast his vote at Nishan School in Ahmedabad. The Prime Minister voted in the Gandhinagar constituency from where Union Home Minister Amit Shah is contesting on the BJP ticket. Shah is facing Sonal Patel of the Congress.
Shah also cast his vote in another polling booth. He was accompanied by his wife Sonal and son Jay Shah, who is the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Gujarat is voting for 25 Lok Sabha seats. The BJP candidate in Surat was declared elected unopposed. Bypolls for five assembly seats are also being held on Tuesday.
The PM asked the electorate to vote in large numbers. He also asked the people to drink more water to remain hydrated. In Gujarat, the temperatures are expected to cross 40 degrees celsius in the afternoon on Tuesday.
This is the third phase of the general elections in the country.
Modi walked about 200 metres to reach the polling booth. Before reaching the booth, he waved at mediapersons and gave his autograph on a couple of his sketches.
Among those who cast their votes early were Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and the BJP and Congress candidates.
