The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Karnataka Police arrested Karnataka Janata Dal (Secular) MLA HD Revanna on May 4, 2024 evening. The arrest is linked to a kidnapping case lodged against him.
Revanna was taken into custody from the residence of his father, HD Deve Gowda, the former Prime Minister of India. The arrest followed the rejection of his plea for interim protection from arrest by a Bengaluru court.
The case against Revanna stems from allegations that an associate of his kidnapped the mother of a 20-year-old man. The complainant, Raju HD, and his mother were employed as domestic help at Revanna’s farmhouse.
The woman was reportedly abducted from her home on April 29 by Satish Babanna, a relative of Revanna. She was held captive at a farmhouse owned by Rajasekhar, a close aide of the MLA, in Kalenalli. The woman was rescued by the Karnataka Police earlier in the day.
The charges against the JD(S) MLA were filed under Section 364A (kidnap) and Section 365 (forceful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), with non-bailable sections invoked by the Karnataka Police.
In a related development, Revanna and his son, Prajwal Revanna, are facing serious allegations of sexual assault and filming the act. The SIT has issued a lookout notice against both individuals. Prajwal has reportedly already left the country.
Explicit video clips allegedly involving Prajwal have been circulating in Hassan recently, prompting the state government to form the SIT to investigate the alleged sex scandal involving the MP.
Prajwal, the grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, was the BJP-JD(S) alliance’s candidate from Hassan in the Lok Sabha polls held on April 26. He is believed to have left the country on April 27, a day after the first phase of the Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka. Sources indicate that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is likely to seek a ‘Blue Corner Notice’ against Prajwal Revanna.
