As temperatures in Gujarat cross the 41°C mark, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning effective from today until the 1st of May. The warning comes as several parts of the state are expected to experience heatwave conditions.
According to the latest bulletin from the IMD, isolated pockets of Saurashtra, specifically Porbandar and Bhavnagar, are expected to be hit by the heatwave until the 1st of May. The weather warning also extends to Diu, Daman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli.
The IMD has outlined the impact of the heatwave for the next three days:
Day 1 & 2: Heatwave conditions are expected to prevail in Porbandar, Bhavnagar, and Diu. While the heat is tolerable for the general public, it poses a moderate health concern for vulnerable groups such as infants, the elderly, and people with chronic diseases. The IMD suggests avoiding heat exposure, wearing lightweight, light-coloured, loose, cotton clothes, and covering the head.
Day 3: The heatwave is expected to continue in Porbandar and Bhavnagar. The same precautions are advised, with an emphasis on protecting vulnerable groups from the heat.
