In the world of comedy, it seems laughter can indeed turn into gold. A recent report by a wealth management startup has claimed that Tanmay Bhat, co-founder of the now-defunct comedy collective AIB, is the richest content creator in India. The report, which quickly went viral, estimated Bhat’s net worth at a staggering Rs 665 crore, a figure previously unheard of for any comedian in the country.
The report caused quite a stir online, with many expressing shock at the figures. Bhat topped the list, followed by Technical Guruji at Rs 356 crore, Bhuvan Bam at Rs 122 crore, Ranveer Allahbadia at Rs 58 crore, and Ajey Nagar (Carry Minati) at Rs 50 crore.
Journalist Suchin Mehrotra took to Twitter to express his disbelief, tweeting, “In today’s episode of ‘What’s the point of even getting up in the morning?’… apparently folks like Tanmay Bhat are worth 665 crores.” Bhat responded to the tweet with a series of laughter emojis, assuring that the reported figure was “wildly off – at least for me.”
A report by Business Standard also mentioned that Bhat had tweeted that earning Rs 665 crore by posting memes on social media was impossible. This tweet was later deleted.
Even before Bhat’s clarification, several users on the platform X had expressed skepticism about the reported figures. One user questioned the methodology used to calculate net worth, stating, “The number looks wayyyy off. have they included a methodology? Networth can have really loose definitions.” Another user compared Bhat’s reported net worth to that of actor Ajay Devgan, saying, “According to the same FE, Ajay Devgan’s net worth is ~500 cr. And Tanmay Bhat is supposed to be more than that? These numbers deserve the trash bin.”
On the professional front, Bhat was recently involved in the creative process behind the viral Ranveer Singh-Johnny Sins men’s wellness brand campaign. His YouTube page, boasting over 1,000 videos, has a following of 4.72 million subscribers.
