Gujarat Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) P Bharathi, announced that a total of 4.97 crore voters, which includes 12.20 lakh first-time voters, are set to participate in the Lok Sabha elections and bypolls for five assembly seats in Gujarat on May 7.
According to the final electoral roll, there are 4,97,68,677 voters expected to cast their ballots, with 12,20,438 falling in the 18-19 age bracket, exercising their voting rights for the first time.
Updating from the January 5, 2024, electoral roll, Gujarat now has 4,97,68,677 registered voters, which includes 2,56,16,540 men, 2,41,50,603 women, and 1,534 third-gender. Bharathi said all citizens who applied for EPIC (voter) cards by March 15, 2024, had received them, and the e-EPIC print would serve as a valid proof of identity if the EPIC card was unavailable.
Shamsher Singh, Gujarat Director General of Police (Law & Order), mentioned the establishment of 133 checkposts to secure borders with neighboring states, equipped with body-worn cameras and CCTVs.
