The film Bharat Maro Desh Che is about the nomadic community of Gujarat (also called vicharti vimukt). The film revolves around their daily struggles and the problems they face due to not having proper citizenship documents despite being born in India.
The film was shot in 2020 during the period following the first lockdown. The unit faced several hurdles while shooting the film. A few crew members caught the virus, but the makers kept going because for them the message they needed to send through the film was too important to pause the filming.
The film was shot at the real-life locations of Idar and Rabari vaas where they shot some action sequences and destroyed real-life huts of the people there through bulldozers. Later, the crew rebuilt the huts that were destroyed.
The film has not released in theatres yet, but it’s gaining a lot of success and awards already, including London Independent Film Awards, Noida International Film Festival, Jaipur International Film Festival and the Bharat International Film Awards. The producers and directors have registered the movie for the National Awards and are confident about winning some awards.
Producer Sanjay Shah explains, “When we made the film, we made it with a very warm feeling and hope that not just the jury, but the masses will also love and accept our film. We have kept it as gripping and as gritty as possible.” He adds that the main motive of
making the film was to make the audience aware of the life of the people of the Vicharti Vimukt tribe and others who are below the poverty line who are yet to receive the basic right of holding citizenship of the country they belong to.
Shah explains, “When I did more research on this subject, I was shocked. I felt that we needed to use the platform of film to tell the tale of these people and the atrocities they face.” The filmmakers are now eagerly waiting for theaters to open to showcase the film.
