Holi is a much-awaited festival every year. Symbolising colour and fun, it is a joyous celebration. However, the colours you play with during Holi can adversely affect the face and hair.
One important point is to avoid chemical-based colours and opt for natural, herbal ones to protect your skin and hair. Also, avoid using harsh soaps, hot water, and rubbing your face or hair vigorously.
In addition, follow these post-Holi tips to keep your skin and hair glowing and healthy:
Wash face and hair: It is important to get rid of the colours from face and hair as soon as possible to prevent skin irritation. Gently wash your face, body and hair with normal water or lukewarm water. Do not use hot water. Pat your skin and hair dry with a soft towel. A harsh textured towel may cause a rash.
Use oil or cleanser: This will remove the pigments. Gently massage the cleanser on the skin and hair. Don’t overlook the hairline.
Gently scrub skin: Using a gentle scrub will remove the traces of colour and dead skin cells. Do not be harsh on the skin. If you have rashes, avoid exfoliating. While exfoliating, apply the cream in circular motions on face, neck and hands.
Moisturise thoroughly: Choose a good moisturiser to restore moisture levels and soothe dryness or irritation. Massage the moisture on the skin in the upward direction for better absorption and improved circulation. Use double the amount of moisturiser you usually use.
Ensure you condition hair: The hair gets dry and flaky after exposure to Holi colours. Deep conditioning treatments can help restore moisture, repair damage, and rejuvenate the hair roots. Choose a conditioner rich in natural oils, vitamins and proteins. You can also use a paste of banana and honey which is a natural conditioner for the hair.
Try using masks: For the skin, you can use a hydrating face mask which contains aloe vera, cucumber or oatmeal to calm irritation and restore the skin’s natural balance. A hair mask should contain moisturising oils, plant extracts, and vitamins. Keep the masks for half an hour and wash them off with lukewarm water. Using a homemade DIY mask is another option.
