The Congress party released its second list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday evening. The list also includes six candidates from Gujarat, including Geniben Thakor(MLA) from Banaskantha, Nitish Lalan(District Youth Congress President) from Kutch SC, Rohan Gupta from Ahmedabad East, Bharat Yogendra Makwana( former MLA) from Ahmedabad West SC, Lalit Vasoya(MLA) from Porbander, Siddharth Chaudhary from Bardoli ST and Anant Patel(MLA) from Valsad ST.
Moreover, Congress has given two seats of Bhavnagar and Bharuch to Aam Aadmi Party as part of the I.N.D.I Alliance Arrangement.
The party has given Daman & Diu union territory ticket to local unit president Ketan Patel.
It is worth noting that the first list did not include any candidates from Gujarat.
The Party General Secretary K C Venugopal, announced the list of 43 candidates from various states such as Assam, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and the Union Territory of Daman and Diu.
Notably, out of these 43 candidates, 33 come from OBC, SC, ST or minority communities, reflecting the party’s commitment to social diversity.
The party’s Central Election Committee (CEC) convened on Monday to finalize the candidates, shortly after releasing its first list for the polls.
The first list was released on March 8, 2024, with 39 candidates, including Rahul Gandhi, who is slated to contest from Kerala’s Wayanad constituency again. Other notable names included Bhupesh Baghel, the former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, nominated to contest from Rajnandgaon and AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal, who will be contesting from Alappuzha in Kerala. Shashi Tharoor has been renominated from Thiruvananthapuram.
Earlier, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) declared 15 candidates from Gujarat out of its 26 candidates in the first list.
Gujarat has a total of 26 seats in the Lok Sabha and all of them are currently held by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
