‘Oppenheimer’, Christopher Nolan’s three-hour biopic, won seven Oscars, including best picture, best director, best actor, best supporting actor, best cinematography, best editing, and best original score. The film was nominated in 13 categories.
The other films nominated for best picture were ‘Poor Things’, ‘Anatomy of a Fall’, ‘Barbie’, ‘The Holdovers’, ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’, ‘American Fiction’, ‘Maestro’, ‘Past Lives’ and ‘The Zone of Interest’.
Yorgos Lanthimos’ ‘Poor Things’ collected the second most awards at the 96th Academy Awards, including the best actress award for Emma Stone.
Cillian Murphy, the Irish actor who essayed the role of J. Robert Oppenheimer won the best actor award while Christopher Nolan was declared best director. According to sources, the other leading contender for best actor was ‘The Holdovers’ actor, Paul Giamatti.
Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel was the emcee of the awards function for the fourth time. The function took place in Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles, on Sunday.
While stars began gracing the red carpet, pro-Palestinian protesters shouted and slowed traffic near the venue of the awards ceremony.
