The Hatkeshwar Bridge, which has been in a bad condition since 2021, will be torn down and made again from the start. The city’s government has asked for companies to apply for the job of designing and making the bridge.
Before this, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) had asked for companies to apply for the job of removing and fixing 8 parts of the bridge for Rs. 24.87 crores. But no one applied for the job, so the AMC has now asked for companies to apply for the job of removing and making the whole bridge again. The AMC has asked for Rs. 51.70 crores for this job today.
The Hatkeshwar Bridge was made for Rs. 50.88 crores and people started using it in November 2017. But since April 2021, it has shown many problems, like big gaps and cracks, and the top layer coming off at many places. It was closed for people to use for a long time, and then it was decided to break 8 parts of the bridge and make them again after a team checked it and IIT-Roorkee said that bad quality materials were used to make it.
In July, the city’s government decided to ban Ajay Engineering Infra, the company that made the bridge, for 10 years and make them pay for the new bridge.
