When Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma welcomed their first child, Vamika, on January 11, 2021, they requested the paparazzi, media, and fans not to share pictures.
A few months after Vamika’s birth, the power couple shared their gratitude on Instagram. The message read: “We are deeply thankful to the Indian paparazzi and most of the media fraternity for not publishing pictures or videos of Vamika. As parents, our request to the few who carried the images and video will be to support us going forward.”
Virat later explained, “We have decided as a couple to not expose our child to social media before she has an understanding of what social media is and can make her own choice.”
They reiterated their plea when Team India departed for South Africa. Virat Kohli requested the media not to publish any photos of his daughter.
The couple said: “We seek privacy for our child and would like to do our best to give her a chance to live her life freely away from media and social media. As she is older, we cannot restrict her movement, and hence your support is needed, so kindly practice restraint in the matter. A special thank you to fan clubs and people on the internet for going out of their way to not post images. It was kind and highly mature of you.”
On February 15, the couple was blessed with a second child – a son they have named Akaay, Questions have been raised about Akaay’s citizenship status, as he was reportedly born in London.
