Allu Arjun, who won the National Film Award for Best Actor for his role as Pushpa in the 2021 blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise, has revealed that he is planning to make a third film in the Pushpa franchise. The actor, who is currently shooting for the sequel Pushpa 2: The Rule, said that he has exciting ideas for the lineup and wants to see how the international audiences will react to his film.
Allu Arjun was speaking to Variety at the Berlin International Film Festival, where Pushpa: The Rise was screened at the European Film Market. He said, “You can definitely expect part three, we do want to make it a franchise and we have exciting ideas for the lineup. I just want to see how people abroad are going to see this film, and try to understand how they view Indian cinema, just understand how film festivals are and what kind of films are watched and what is the mindset of the people that come there.”
He also shared the feedback he received from both Indian and overseas viewers, and said that he did not find much of a difference between the urban Indians and the global audiences. He said, “So, all the things that they have liked in terms of the candidness of the film or the performances, I’ve got similar feedback from urban audiences in India and overseas.”
Pushpa: The Rise, written and directed by Sukumar, was a huge hit across India, making Allu Arjun the new pan India star. The film followed the story of Pushpa, a daily wage worker turned red sanders smuggler, who rises in ranks and wants to have an empire of his own. The film also starred Rashmika Mandanna, Fahadh Faasil, and Jagapathi Babu in pivotal roles.
Pushpa 2: The Rule, which is slated to release on August 15, 2024, will continue the story of Pushpa and his rivals. The first-look posters of Allu Arjun and Fahadh Faasil from the sequel have already created a lot of buzz among the fans, who are now waiting for Rashmika Mandanna’s look poster. Rashmika Mandanna, who plays Pushpa’s love interest in the film, has also teased that the sequel will be bigger and better than the first film. She said, “I can promise you that Pushpa 2 is going to be so much bigger. We gave some madness in the first film, in part 2, we know we have a responsibility because people have so much expectation from the film. We are constantly and consciously trying to deliver that. I just shot for a song for Pushpa 2 and I was just like, ‘How are you guys thinking about this?’ Everyone is so driven to make a good film. All of us have gone all out and are enjoying the process. It’s a story that has no end, you can lead it any which way. It is fun.”
