An AI-based WhatsApp chatbot launched by the Surat Police to control growing cybercrime aims to provide quick assistance to individuals dealing with various cyber issues, spanning from reporting cybercrimes to receiving safety tips.
The AI-based WhatsApp chatbot, named “Surat Police Cyber Crime Cell Chatbot” is the first of its kind in the country, showcasing Surat Police’s dedication to utilising advanced technology for public safety. Despite being in its early stages, this groundbreaking initiative highlights the potential for substantial advancements in the battle against cyber threats.
Surat Police Commissioner-in-Charge Sharad Singhal said the initiative would prove to be a major tool in tackling the escalating challenges posed by cybercrime. The AI-powered chatbot provides citizens with a platform to instantly report cyber fraud.
Rahul Seth, a researcher specialising in IT at Arizona State University, commended the use of AI in crime control as a positive step forward. While acknowledging Surat Police’s efforts, he stressed the need for continuous improvements in various areas, including technological advancements, data acquisition related to cybercrime, and training for police personnel.
The Surat Cyber Mitra Chatbot, available on WhatsApp number 9328523417, offers round-the-clock assistance to citizens. To initiate a chat, one can simply type ‘Hi.’ Citizens can access crucial information on cyber fraud, legal matters at their fingertips.
