Music composer Anu Malik is reminiscing about the 25th anniversary of Baadshah, the action comedy film directed by Abbas-Mustan and starring Shah Rukh Khan and Twinkle Khanna. The film, which released in 1999, has a loyal fan base who love its music, especially the title song, which was composed by Malik. “I still remember how I sang the tune of Baadshah O Baadshah to Shah Rukh on a flight with different lyrics. He liked it so much that we decided to use the word Baadshah for the title track. Abbas-Mustan also agreed that it suited the film.
After this song, Shah Rukh became known as King Khan and Baadshah,” says Malik, who had worked with SRK before in 1994 (Baazigar). Malik praises the director duo for their “unique and interesting” style of filmmaking. “They always create suspense and thrill in their films. Baadshah had everything going for it, including the star cast. It was a team effort that paid off, and the film deserves to be remembered even after 25 years.” Malik is “proud” of his musical journey since the film. “It is a huge milestone; 25 years is a long time. It is an achievement for an artiste to know that their work has lasted so long. It makes me happy that I have made music that continues to make people happy even after 25 years,” he concludes.
He also congratulates HT City for its silver jubilee year. “I would like to congratulate HT City for a successful 25 years, you did a commendable job. Many more successful years to follow and I hope I am around and can celebrate with you even on your 50 year anniversary.”
