Ahmedabad, India: Gujarat presented its 2024-25 budget, outlining a vision for “Viksit Gujarat@2047” and prioritizing social security, education, infrastructure, and women’s empowerment. Finance Minister Kanu Desai announced a Rs 3.32 lakh crore budget, emphasizing five key aspects: Garvi (pride), Gunvantu (prosperous), Green, Global, and Gatisheel (dynamic).
Education Takes Center Stage: Education received the largest share of the budget at Rs 55,114 crore, with plans to upgrade infrastructure, open new schools, and launch new schemes. The “Namo Lakshmi Yojna” will support girls in higher education, while “Namo Saraswati” will provide scholarships for STEM students from low-income families.
Empowering Women: The “Namo Shri” scheme will provide Rs 12,000 to pregnant women, and two new schemes focus on women’s empowerment and education.
Focus on Infrastructure and Urban Development: Recognizing the rising urbanization trend, the state plans to develop world-class infrastructure in seven nagarpalikas, transforming them into municipal corporations.
5G for a Future-Ready Gujarat: Desai highlighted the “5G Gujarat” vision, aiming to leverage technology for development. Initiatives like a “School of Semiconductor” and a “Center of Excellence in Skills and Employability” are planned to address growing needs in key sectors.
Sustainable and Global Growth: The budget promotes green initiatives and aims to position Gujarat as a global player. A revenue surplus and a lower-than-national-average fiscal deficit indicate sound financial management.
