The film, which featured Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt as the lead couple, also had the veteran actors playing their grandparents, who rediscover their love after years.
The kiss between Dharmendra and Shabana was a shocker for the fans and a highlight of the film. Shabana Azmi, who won the best supporting actor award at the Filmfare awards, shared how her niece Tabu, who is also a successful actor, joked about the scene with her. “Tabu, who is my niece, is very naughty. She says that I have shaken the industry with my kiss. Now all the actresses of my age are saying that they will do a film only if there is a kiss in it,” she said.
Karan Johar, who directed the film, admitted how he felt nervous to narrate the scene to Dharmendra, but the actor was very cool about it. “I paused and he said ‘What is the problem?’. He said ‘I have done this many times before’. I said okay then.” Karan complimented the two actors for their professionalism and said that they were true artists who did not make a fuss about the scene, unlike others.
