Dr. Mukul Shah, a renowned gynecologist and former mayor of Ahmedabad, has sadly passed away. His demise has left a void in the city’s political and medical fraternity. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on the passing of the former mayor via a heartfelt tweet.
Dr. Shah’s final journey commenced today at 9 am from his residence, Sabina Apartment, near M.J. Library, behind the petrol pump, and concluded at V.S. Crematorium.
Dr. Shah had a distinguished career in public service and academia. He served as the Vice Chancellor of Gujarat University and was the first doctor to be appointed as the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the institution. He acknowledged that managing Gujarat University was a challenging task that required significant effort and understanding.
In 2011, Dr. Shah was appointed as the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Gujarat University by the Gujarat government. He had a successful stint as a municipal councilor in 1980 and was re-elected in the same year. He served as the mayor of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation in 1991 and 1992, and as the deputy mayor in 1988 and 1989. He was also the chairman of the permanent committee in 1990.
In 2017, Dr. Shah was appointed as a regulator in forensic science by the Home Department of the Gujarat government, marking another significant milestone in his illustrious career. His contributions to the city of Ahmedabad and the field of medicine will be remembered for years to come.
