The tyre killer bumps installed by the Ahmedabad Traffic Department to curb wrong side driving have been removed. This has led to a resurgence of vehicles being driven on the wrong side of the road.
The tyre killer bumps were initially installed near the Chanakyapuri Bridge in the city by the Ahmedabad Traffic Police. The initiative was part of a new experiment aimed at penalizing drivers who violated traffic rules by driving on the wrong side. Following the success of the initiative at Chanakyapuri Bridge, similar installations were made in various parts of the city.
However, the tyre killer bumps, which were designed to puncture the tyres of vehicles driven on the wrong side, had sparked considerable resentment among the public when first installed in August. Despite this, the traffic police had to sharpen the blades of the tyre killer bumps to maintain their effectiveness.
The removal of the tyre killer bumps just five to six months after their installation has sparked widespread discussion. The absence of the bumps from their original locations, with only the boards installed by the traffic department remaining, has raised questions about the effectiveness of the initiative.
The traffic police’s experiment is now under scrutiny, with debates centering on whether the tyre killer bumps were successful in deterring drivers from driving on the wrong side.
