Surat: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Surat police has unearthed a major racket involving the issuance of fake birth certificates online. Raids are currently underway in Bihar, where the scam is believed to be headquartered.
The investigation began after authorities received a suspicious birth certificate. Upon verification with the Surat Municipal Corporation, the document was confirmed to be forged. Further investigation, aided by a QR code on the certificate, led the police to Sintu Suresh Yadav, a resident of Jhajha town in Bihar’s Jamui district.
Based on a complaint filed by SMC officer Amit Rakholiya, the EOW has registered a case against Yadav and his accomplices for forgery under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant sections of the Information Technology Act (IT Act).
“We received information about the racket and obtained a sample certificate, which we sent to the SMC for verification. It turned out to be fake,” revealed Assistant Commissioner of Police (EOW) VK Parmar. “Tracing the QR code led us to Sintu Yadav. We have booked him and others involved based on the complaint filed by the SMC officer.”
The EOW investigation revealed that the fake certificates were being generated through four online portals: fastportal.online, fastportal.com.in, crsorgi.goov.co.in, and others. These portals were all hosted by a single domain, sintuhost.in, which was also registered in Yadav’s name in Bihar.
Considering the gravity of the offense, as birth certificates form the foundation for various government documents like licenses, Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, and passports, the Surat EOW promptly registered a case on January 22nd.
Inspector AH Rajput is currently investigating the case, with an FIR filed for forgery under various sections of the IPC and the IT Act. The ongoing raids in Bihar aim to apprehend all those involved in the racket and dismantle its operations completely.
