On Tuesday, over 30 flights at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport faced delays and cancellations due to the adverse weather conditions in North India. Dense fog in Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur, Agra and Srinagar disrupted the flight schedules and caused a hazy atmosphere in other parts of the country as well, including Mumbai, Nashik and Pune.
According to an airport source, the flights arriving in Ahmedabad from North India were affected by the fog and this had a cascading effect on their onward journey to various destinations across India. Some of the worst affected flights were Spice Jet’s Chennai-Ahmedabad flight, which was delayed by 6 hours, and Air India’s Ahmedabad-London flight, which faced a 4-hour delay due to connectivity issues. Passengers travelling on routes such as Ahmedabad-Delhi and Goa-Ahmedabad, across various airlines including IndiGo, Akasha Air, Air India and SpiceJet, also experienced disruptions in their schedules.
The airport authorities advised the passengers to check the status of their flights before leaving for the airport and to contact their respective airlines for further information. They also apologized for the inconvenience caused by the weather-induced disruption and assured that they were taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety and comfort of the passengers.
