A resident of Naroda, Ahmedabad, has been identified with a rare ‘X’ blood group. The revelation came to light during a routine blood test conducted at the GCS Hospital’s Blood Center in Naroda.
The individual, a 25-year-old named Nikhil, had donated blood at the center. During the testing of his blood, it was found that his blood group was ‘X’, a rarity in blood types. For further molecular testing, the blood sample has been sent to a laboratory in Australia. Blood samples from other members of Nikhil’s family have also been collected for testing.
Following the discovery, the hospital’s doctors explained to Nikhil that as a blood recipient, he could only receive blood from the ‘O’ blood group. As a donor, he could only donate blood to individuals with the ‘O’ blood group. If this protocol is not followed, the patient receiving the transfusion could face complications, including difficulty in breathing.
This is not the first instance of a rare blood group being discovered in Gujarat. Previously, a 65-year-old resident of Rajkot was found to have the EMM Negative blood group. Individuals with such rare blood groups cannot donate or receive blood from anyone else, leading to potential difficulties when blood transfusion is required.
