Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s elder sister, Rajeshwariben Shah, passed away at a hospital in Mumbai on Monday morning. She was in her mid-60s and had been unwell for some time.

Amit Shah, who was in Ahmedabad to celebrate Makar Sankranti with BJP supporters, cancelled all his engagements in Gujarat following the news of her demise. He also represents Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency.

Rajeshwariben’s mortal remains were brought to her residence in Ahmedabad and her last rites were performed at Thaltej crematorium in the afternoon. Many supporters and well-wishers attended the funeral.

Shah was supposed to inaugurate various projects of Banas Dairy in Banaskantha and Rashtriya Raksha University in Gandhinagar on Monday. However, he called off his programs due to the personal loss.
