The Meteorological Department has issued a forecast for the weather in Gujarat for the next five days. According to the forecast, the state will experience cold and dry weather, with no rain expected. The temperature will remain unchanged for the next five days, and then drop by two to three degrees.
The cold weather is due to the northwesterly and northerly winds that are blowing in the state. These winds make the early morning hours chilly. Gandhinagar recorded the lowest temperature in the state at 9.8 degrees Celsius, while Ahmedabad recorded 11.8 degrees Celsius.
The cold spell is likely to continue till January 19, as per the prediction of weather experts. After that, the weather may change and bring some mist rain in some parts of the state. This may affect the winter crop adversely.
The cold weather has been felt in many parts of the state since Uttarayan, the kite flying festival. The festival also poses a threat to the birds, as many of them get injured or killed by the sharp kite strings. Several organizations and volunteers work to save the birds and provide them medical care.
