Surat, the city of innovation, is gearing up for the Uttarayan festival, which coincides with the Pran Pratishtha Mohotsav of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. A kite maker from Surat, Kalpeshbhai Baraiah, has come up with a unique idea of making kites with the theme of Ram Mandir and the pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Kalpeshbhai, who has been in this business for 25 years, said that he wanted to celebrate the historic occasion of the Ram Temple’s inauguration with his kites. He said that it takes him two days to make one kite, which is 7 feet long and has a picture of the Ram Temple and Lord Rama with a bow. He also said that he has received many bookings for his kites, which are priced between Rs 1,200 and Rs 1,500.
The kite lovers of Surat are also showing great enthusiasm for the kites with the pictures and slogans of PM Modi and CM Yogi, who are seen as the champions of the Ram Temple movement. The kites have catchy phrases in Hindi, such as “Sher yadi do kadam piche hatta hai, to ya na sambhana ki wah dar gaya, kyun ki wah jaanta hai ki kab use lambi chalang lagani hai” (If a lion steps back, don’t assume that he is scared, because he knows when to take a long leap).
The Uttarayan festival, which is celebrated on January 14 every year, marks the day when the sun begins its northward journey. It is also known as Makar Sankranti in other parts of India. The festival is celebrated by flying kites of various shapes, sizes and colors. This year, the festival will also witness the celebration of the Ram Temple’s Pran Pratishtha Mohotsav, which is scheduled for January 22, 2024. The Ram Temple, which is being built on the site of the demolished Babri Masjid, is considered as a symbol of the faith and devotion of millions of Hindus.
