In a shocking incident, over 25 tolas of jewellery worth Rs 14.25 lakh were reported stolen from a house in Anandnagar. The victim, Ranjan Gaikwad, a nurse residing in Shela, had stored the jewellery at her parents’ home in Gurukrupa Society, Anandnagar for safekeeping. The theft was discovered on Tuesday when Ranjan’s relative, Sharmila, found the jewellery missing from the wooden cupboard where it was stored.
The Anandnagar police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Given that the house was open from November 20 to January 2, the police have dismissed the possibility of an outsider’s involvement and suspect an insider’s role in the theft. An initial narrative of two women entering the house and committing the theft was presented, but the police found this story to be false upon cross-examination. The investigation is ongoing.
