In a shocking incident on Wednesday morning, a gas cylinder explosion led to the collapse of five two-storey houses in the Chembur area of Mumbai. The explosion, which occurred at 7.50 am at Old Barrack near Golf Club, resulted in six injuries, including a 47-year-old woman.
All the injured individuals were immediately admitted to the nearby Shatabdi Hospital and are currently being treated at the Out-patient Department (OPD). Their condition is reported to be stable.
In the aftermath of the explosion, 11 people were rescued, including approximately five individuals who were stranded on the first floors of the houses.
The explosion triggered a swift response from the fire brigade, police, civic staff, ambulance service, and other agencies. Five fire brigade vehicles were dispatched to the site, and personnel are currently conducting a search operation to ensure that no one is trapped under the debris of the collapsed houses.
The incident underscores the need for stringent safety measures and protocols in residential areas to prevent such disasters in the future.
