Jheel Mehta, best known for her role as Sonu in the popular sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, is engaged to her longtime boyfriend Aditya. She shared the news on her Instagram handle with a heartwarming video of the proposal.
In the video, Jheel’s friends blindfold her and lead her to a rooftop decorated with lights and flowers. As the blindfold is removed, Aditya is seen standing there, looking dapper in a suit. He then gets down on one knee and proposes to Jheel, who is visibly emotional. She tearfully says “yes,” and the couple embraces.
Soon after the video was shared online, Jheel’s TMKOC co-star Bhavya Gandhi, who played Tappu, rushed to the comments section to congratulate the couple. Several fans also took to social media to express their joy and wish Jheel and Aditya all the best.
“Congratulations, seeing you as Sonu on Tmkoc and now this.. time has past pretty quickly it seems, all the best to both of you,” one fan wrote.
“Congratulations to both of you guys,” read another comment.
Jheel played Sonu on TMKOC from 2008 to 2012. She is one of many actors who have left the show over the years, including Disha Vakani (Dayaben), Bhavya Gandhi (Tappu), Shailesh Lodha (Taarak Mehta), Neha Mehta (Anjali), and Jennifer Mistry (Babita).
Last year, Raj Anadkat, who played Tappu from 2017 to 2023, also left the show.
However, there is some good news for TMKOC fans. In 2023, Asit Modi, the show’s creator, announced that Disha Vakani would be returning as Dayaben.
“In this journey of 15 years, a hearty congratulations to all of them. One such artist is whom we cannot forget. That artist is Daya Bhabhi aka Disha Vakani. She has entertained the fans and also made us laugh for all these years. Fans have been waiting for her to come back and I promise you all that Disha Vakani will soon be back to Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah,” he said.
