A three-year-old girl lost her life after falling into a 30-feet-deep open borewell in Ran village, located in Gujarat’s Devbhumi Dwarka district. The accident occurred around 1 p.m. on Monday, January 1, 2024, while the toddler was playing near the borewell.
Rescue operations were immediately launched by the Army and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel, as reported by Deputy Collector H.B. Bhagora. The NDRF employed a strategy involving locking the girl’s hand with a rope and deploying an L-shaped hook for stability, supplemented by parallel digging.
After an intense rescue operation lasting nearly nine hours, the unconscious child was extracted from the borewell around 9.50 p.m. She was immediately rushed to a government hospital in Jam Khambhalia town for emergency medical treatment.
Despite the best efforts of the medical team, the girl succumbed to her injuries and passed away later that night. Initial reports suggested asphyxiation as the cause of death, but authorities at the hospital stated that the exact cause will be confirmed after a post-mortem examination.
