Good news for talented students from OBC, EBC, and DNT communities in Gujarat! The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment has launched a scholarship scheme offering financial support of up to Rs 75,000 per year for students in classes 9 and 10, and Rs 1.25 lakh per year for those in classes 11 and 12.
The scheme, named “Top Class School Education for Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Backward Class (EBC), and Scheduled Tribes (DNT)”, will operate under the umbrella of PM Young Achievers Scholarship Award Scheme for Vibrant India (YASASVI).
This initiative, under the PM YASASVI scheme, aims to nurture bright minds by covering tuition and hostel fees in centrally-selected schools.
The scheme is applicable only for students whose annual family income from all sources is less than Rs 2.50 lakh. The maximum scholarship benefit under the scheme is capped at Rs 75,000 per year, including tuition and hostel fees for classes 9 and 10. Meanwhile, students in classes 11 and 12 can benefit up to Rs 1,25,000 under the scheme.
To avail of the scholarship in the 2023–24 academic year, students enrolled in classes 9 and 11 at the Ministry-selected schools need to secure a minimum of 60% marks in classes 8 and 10, respectively. The application process is online and the last date for submission is December 31, 2023. This move is a significant step towards promoting education among the economically backward sections of the society.
