A 21 year old, medical student died by suicide in Ahmedabad on Monday. While the matter will be investigated in due course, but the apparent reasons put forward for the student of BJ Medical College to take the ultimate step, are inability to cope up with academic stress and struggle with medical jargons in a language he was not conversant with.
Third-year MBBS student Dhruv Ghadia, with a history of severe stress and psychiatric ailment as confirmed by Dr Hansa Goswami, dean, BJ Medical College, according to reports, hanged himself in his hostel room on the Civil Hospital campus in Asarwa. The deceased student, in a message prior to committing the act, wanted his body to be handed over to his mother. His University exams were due in four days. The boy with his friends studied in group till late evening on Sunday till about midnight. On Monday morning, he had taken the drastic step. Chillingly, the boy had sent a message to his friend to save him which went unread as the friend was asleep. It is reported that the boy was suffering from depression and had consulted a psychiatrist in the college.
