RAJKOT: A 20-year-old woman in Rajkot has filed a police complaint against her 40-year-old live-in partner, alleging multiple instances of rape, deliberate concealment of his HIV-positive status, and a false marriage promise.
The woman, who works as a supervisor at a security firm, claims she and the accused, a field officer at the same company, began living together 18 months ago. She alleges he kept his marital status and HIV diagnosis hidden from her throughout their cohabitation.
According to the complaint, the woman discovered his marriage status four months ago. Upon confronting him, she was further shocked to learn of his HIV-positive status. The woman alleges the accused mocked her, saying she would not be able to marry anyone else after contracting the virus.
A subsequent blood test confirmed the woman’s own HIV infection. She has been receiving medication for the past four months and is currently residing with a friend in Rajkot.
Acting on the complaint, Shapar-Veraval police apprehended the accused from his native town in Gir Somnath district. He has acknowledged living with HIV for two years and receiving treatment at a local hospital. Police confirmed his HIV-positive status.
“We have detained the accused for further questioning,” said police sub-inspector Rajdeepsinh Gohil. “The investigation is ongoing, and we will take appropriate action based on the evidence.”
This case raises serious concerns about consent, disclosure, and vulnerability in intimate relationships. It also highlights the importance of open communication and access to healthcare services.
