Mumbai, India –
England have been forced to make changes to their squad for the upcoming one-off Test against India, scheduled to begin on December 14th. All-rounder Emma Lamb has withdrawn due to a back problem and will return to the UK for further assessment by a spinal surgeon.
In Lamb’s absence, middle-order batter Maia Bouchier and left-arm spinner Kirstie Gordon have been called up to the Test side. Bouchier, despite having no prior Test experience, has featured in three ODIs and 22 T20Is for England. Gordon, on the other hand, has a solitary Test appearance under her belt, against Australia in Taunton earlier this year. Notably, Gordon was part of the England ‘A’ team that recently defeated India 2-1 in a three-match T20I series and is already in Mumbai to join Heather Knight’s squad.
The news comes after England successfully kicked off their Indian tour with a 38-run victory in the first T20I in Mumbai on December 1st. The second and third T20Is are scheduled to take place at the Wankhede Stadium on the 9th and 10th of December respectively, before the Test match commences at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
England will be hoping to maintain their winning momentum and secure a positive result in the Test match. The inclusion of Bouchier and Gordon adds depth and versatility to the squad, and their contributions could prove crucial in the upcoming test of skill and endurance against India.
