Chhatisgarh, currently ruled by Congress
90 seats, 46 seats needed to form a majority
Last elections in 2018: Congress had won 68 seats and BJP had won 15 seats. Seven seat won by others. In 2018, BJP had lost 34 seats which they had won in 2013. Out of these, Congress managed to grab 29 seats and Ajit Jogi’s party had got five seats. So then BJP chief minister Raman Singh has been dropped this time and Narayan Chandel has been made the BJP CM face. BJP had ruled for 15 years.
This time also, BJP is giving tough competition and it seems Congress, even if it wins; their percentage of votes would not be more than two percent to that of the BJP. That is, Congress is likely to roughly get 44.8% with the BJP likely to get 43.7% votes. Other Parties and independents are likely to get over 11.7% votes.
Current chief minister Bhupesh Baghel,will be repeated if Congress wins.
Rajasthan, currently ruled by Congress
200 Assembly seats, 101 needed for majority.
Elections held for 199 seats as Congress candidate from Gangaganagar died.
Since last 30 years, BJP and Congress have taken turns and while the State ensures that at least 34% of their MLAs are not repeated every election, interestingly, there have been just two main faces. Ashok Gehlot of Congress and Vasundhara Raje in BJP.
While the ruling Congress party is pitching on its welfare schemes, policies and guarantees under the Ashok Gehlot government, BJP is banking on polarisation along with accusations of appeasement politics, Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal murder and riots under Gehlot government, invitations to Ram temple, as well as issues of law and order, crimes against women, corruption and paper leaks.
Madhya Pradesh, ruled by BJP.
Total 230 seats, 116 needed to form the government
Congress won in 2018 and Kamalnath became CM but 22 Congress MLAs led by Jyotiraditya Scindia walked off and joined the BJP.
If BJP wins this time, it will be CM Shivraj Chauhan’s fifth record time to lead the State.
In 2018 elections, Congress got 114 and BJp had 109 seats.
Telangana
Has 119 seats and 60 is required to form the Government
Mizoram and Telangana are the only States where BJP and Congress are not the primary rivals fighting each other.
BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samiti)’s KC Rao won 88 seats last time and formed the government. The Congress won only 19 seats and the BJP won only one seat. Owaisi won seven seats here.
This is perhaps the most interesting election. It remains to be seen whether South Continues to support regional leadership than the rule of Central party high command.
IF KCR wins, it will be his third time.
Mizoram
Sadly, this has remained the most neglected of all the states that has gone to polls in 2023.
There are 40 seats in this North Eastern State. 21 seats are needed to form the government.
Mizoram is currently ruled by MNF (Mizo National Front). They won 26 seats in the last election. MNF is an ally of BJP. The Congress and its allies won five seats only in the last elections.
So far, this Christian-dominated State has always given two terms to the ruling government, which can be sweet music for MNF. MNF, ZPM (Zoram People’s Movement), and Congress are the main players. The BJP has only one seat here right now but has put 21 candidates in fray. BJP candidates winning here will be a direct credit to Himant Biswa Sharma. MNF and BJP are allies at the Centre and part of NDA, but they are contesting this Assembly election as separate political entities.
