Mohun Bagan SG management has raised objections to playing this Thursday’s CFL Super Six derby against East Bengal in Naihati, citing congested fixtures and “ineffective scheduling by IFA.” The IFA insists the match is on schedule and East Bengal will get a walkover if Mohun Bagan doesn’t show up.
Reasons for Mohun Bagan’s Objection
Mohun Bagan’s objection to playing the derby is due to several reasons:
- Congested fixtures: Mohun Bagan has an upcoming ISL match against Hyderabad FC in Bhubaneswar, which has been shifted due to the Telangana assembly elections. The team is scheduled to leave for Odisha’s capital city on Thursday evening.
- Injuries: Mohun Bagan is missing several key players through injury. As a result, they have been forced to call up several players from their reserve side, who are playing in the CFL, to the senior team.
- Ineffective scheduling by IFA: Mohun Bagan believes that the IFA’s scheduling of the CFL Super Six has been ineffective. They point out that most of the teams in the league have skipped their matches due to other tournaments, which they say questions the sanity of the CFL.
IFA’s Response
The IFA has insisted that the match is on schedule and that East Bengal will be awarded a walkover if Mohun Bagan does not show up.
It is unclear whether Mohun Bagan will ultimately show up for the derby. However, their objections raise concerns about the IFA’s scheduling of the CFL Super Six.
