This is a short tale,
Of two birds nearly the same age,
One living in the woods and flying high in the sky,
The other dwelling in a golden cage.
Unable to meet they felt anguished,
What happened next was as the Lord wished,
The free bird dived down straight,
To where it’s soul mate waited in the cage.
Freedom is priceless, come out and enjoy,
Let us both fly high in the sky,
We can chirp in the woods, play in the streams,
Make merry and live out all our dreams.
The caged bird tweeted softly,
I dwell in my cage very cosily,
Come here ,this is my abode,
We can both live peacefully.
The free bird reacted strongly,
Refused imprisonment very candidly,
The caged bird was utterly helpless,
Did not know how to live constraint less .
The free bird sang amidst the woods,
Could open up it’s heart as normally one should,
The caged bird could speak only that language,
Which it had learn’t living as a hostage.
The free bird beckoned its caged friend,
To learn songs of the woods till day’s end,
The caged bird besieged his free friend,
To learn songs of captivity as he recommends.
Unable to come close, they felt helpless,
Sat on either side of the cage, clueless,
Looked at each other utterly cheerless,
Flapped their wings asking for elusive closeness.
Love for each other they wished to express,
Their emotions became hard to suppress,
Beaks touched each other through the cage gaps,
They wanted all barriers to collapse.
Born in India after Independence,
I know not what is dependence,
Have heard tales of existence,
Which my country men led under foreign dominance.
Captivity is a curse we all agree,
Pray Lord, let us all be born and stay free,
Freedom should be the rightful choice,
For all born under the wide open sky.
