A garba event in Ahmedabad getting cancelled at the last moment has left enthusiasts angry and frustrated. Many of them had reached the venue at SP Ring Road when they learnt about the cancellation.
Passes for the ‘Rame Ahmedabad’ event, hosted near the Science City crossroad, were sold for Rs 500 each and for many attendees, it all got wasted due to the abrupt cancellation of the event.
They later took to social media to vent their ire. The evening was set to feature a performance by Jagdip Mehta’s orchestra. Speaking about the sudden turn of events, Jagdip Mehta said, “Sandeep Patel from Avishkar Entertainment informed me at 2 pm about the cancellation due to financial troubles. He hadn’t even cleared payments for the event’s lighting and decor. He’s unavailable on the phone now.”
Organiser Sandeep Patel claimed, “We provided complimentary passes worth Rs 499 to a select few. Unfortunately, some of them resorted to selling these passes for paltry Rs 100. As a result, we suffered a huge loss and were left with no option but to cancel the event.”
Enthusiasts are also taking to social media against garba organisers who charge hefty entry fees but don’t deliver on the promise of “premium garba”. One such enthusiast, Janvi Patel, recounted her ordeal where she paid a hefty fee of Rs 2,500. “My friends and I had a terrible time. Everything, from ticket booking to valet parking, was chaotic. The venue was jam-packed, lacking even basic standing space,” she said.
Narrating her experience, Rutuja Shah said, “I have been to four separate garba events so far. Most places become overcrowded after 10 pm and there’s hardly any space to perform garba. The high garba pass cost did not justify the hype.”
Palak Desai, who went to a garba event on SG Highway, said, “A four-inch pizza was being sold for Rs 250 which is usually available for Rs 100 at best of the outlets. A plate of bhel and sev-puri were being sold for Rs 120, which otherwise cost Rs 60 per plate. A Rs 10 water bottle was being sold for Rs 50. For the student community, who are already shelling out Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 per garba pass, such prices are outrageous.”
