PM Narendra Modi Inaugurates Yashobhoomi In Delhi’s Dwarka

| Updated: September 18, 2023 17:02

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially opened ‘Yashobhoomi’ to the public in Dwarka today, September 17th. The Prime Minister’s vision of establishing world-class infrastructure for hosting meetings, conferences and exhibitions in the country has taken a significant step forward with the operational launch of Phase 1 of the India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC), named ‘Yashobhoomi,’ in Dwarka.

Before the inauguration, PM Modi took a journey on the Delhi Metro, marking the extension of the Airport Express line from Dwarka Sector 21 to the newly introduced metro station, ‘Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25.’

With a vast project area exceeding 8.9 lakh square meters and a total built-up area exceeding 1.8 lakh square meters, ‘Yashobhoomi’ now stands as one of the world’s largest MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) facilities.

The Convention Center, spanning over 73 thousand square meters, encompasses 15 convention rooms, including the Main Auditorium, the Grand Ballroom, and 13 meeting rooms, with a collective capacity of accommodating 11,000 delegates. Notably, the Convention Centre boasts the nation’s most extensive LED media facade.

The Main Auditorium serves as the plenary hall for the Convention Center and offers seating for approximately 6,000 guests. This auditorium is equipped with a highly innovative automated seating system, allowing for a flat floor or an auditorium-style tiered seating arrangement, catering to various seating configurations.

The inclusion of wooden floors and acoustic wall panels in the auditorium ensures a world-class experience for visitors. Meanwhile, the Grand Ballroom, distinguished by its unique petal ceiling, can host around 2,500 guests and includes an extended open area with a capacity for up to 500 people. Additionally, the 13 meeting rooms, spread across eight floors, are designed to accommodate meetings of varying scales.

‘Yashobhoomi’ also boasts one of the world’s largest Exhibition halls, covering over 1.07 lakh square meters. These Exhibition halls will serve as venues for exhibitions, trade fairs, and business events, and they are interconnected with a grand foyer space featuring a distinctive copper ceiling designed to filter light through skylights.

The foyer will encompass several support areas, including Media rooms, VVIP lounges, Cloak facilities, a visitor information center, and ticketing services. It incorporates materials and objects inspired by Indian culture, such as terrazzo floors with Brass inlay depicting rangoli patterns, suspended sound-absorbent metal cylinders, and illuminated patterned walls.

Furthermore, ‘Yashobhoomi’ demonstrates a firm commitment to sustainability, featuring a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment system with 100 percent wastewater reuse, rainwater harvesting, rooftop solar panels, and achieving Green Cities Platinum certification from CII’s Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).

In addition to these achievements, ‘Yashobhoomi’ will be seamlessly connected to the Delhi Airport Metro Express line through the inauguration of the new metro station at Dwarka Sector 25. This development will also see an increase in the operational speed of Metro trains on the Airport Express Line, reducing travel time. The total journey from New Delhi to ‘Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25’ will now take approximately 21 minutes.
