The Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) has flagged 20 societies for illegal drainage connections, posing trouble for hundreds of residents.
Sources from AUDA suggest that these societies likely range between 3-15 years of age. Notable mentions include Vishwanath Realtor group’s Maher Homes, Shivalik Sharda Park View, HN Safal, Goyal & Co’s Aakash Residency, and Sakar Country Bungalow near Club 07.
These societies have been given just three days to respond to AUDA’s allegations of unauthorised connections, which are burdening the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) principal drainage line at Shantipura Circle, leading to overflows.
Failure to address the issue might result in AUDA severing their drainage connections. Various society heads convened to strategise on potential solutions.
A resident of Meher Homes expressed his disbelief, “We are surprised… the notice should ideally go to the developers since we’ve already paid AUDA’s development charges when purchasing our homes.”
Many societies are consulting their developers for clarity. “Before meeting AUDA officials, we’ll discuss with our developers – Shivalik Group. From there, we’ll decide our next steps,” said a resident of Park View Apartments.
A developer commented, “The apartments were sold with approved plans. Residents should be aware of them. Nevertheless, we stand ready to assist wherever needed.”
AUDA insiders hint at potential discussions with AMC on legalising some societies, depending on their submissions and feedback. It’s crucial to note that the drainage line ownership now lies with AMC, following the merger of Bopal and Ghuma with the corporation.
