The Kamla Nehru Zoological Garden (KNZG) will be seen in a new avatar since the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has plans to merge it with the proposed Safari Park in the city.
Additionally, the authority is contemplating the development of a biodiversity park and jungle safari as an extension of KNZG, a national daily reported.
The master plans for the safari park and the biodiversity park must be in sync with the KNZG master plan during the approval process by the Central Zoo Authority (CZA), the report added.
Those in charge of the master plan will support the AMC in developing the document for the safari.
The report pointed out the way KNZG has been at the forefront of several developments over the years, including the makeover of enclosures in the form of open-moated enclosure for tigers in 1995 and later a similar one for lions in 2000 and bears in 2003.
It’s credited with setting up the zoo hospital (2004), a reptile house (2009), an open butterfly park (2012), and the nocturnal zoo (2017).
The master plan is categorised in the large zoo category, with KNZG, which is also a breeding zoo, housing 750 animals from 75 species.
