In a significant step towards aiding the recovery and development of flood-ravaged Uttarakhand, Reliance Industries, led by Anant Ambani, has made a generous contribution of Rs. 25 crore to the state’s Chief Minister Relief Fund. This benevolent gesture is part of Reliance’s longstanding commitment to the welfare of Uttarakhand and its people, extending over a decade.
The devastating floods and landslides that struck Uttarakhand during July and August of this year wreaked havoc, causing widespread loss of life and property. Reliance Industries, no stranger to Uttarakhand’s hardships, had been a steadfast supporter of the state since the catastrophic floods of 2013. Once again, they have emerged as a beacon of hope, extending their assistance to rebuild lives and communities affected by the recent natural calamity.
Anant Ambani, spokesperson for Reliance Industries, expressed the company’s profound connection with Uttarakhand, stating, “We share a deep bond with the people of Uttarakhand, through joys and sorrows over the past decade. The phenomenal resilience of the state and its people in the face of crisis has been inspiring to all of us at Reliance. As we mark a decade of our association with Uttarakhand, to further strengthen this journey we are contributing in a meaningful manner to the state’s well-being.”
Reliance Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Reliance Industries, was among the first organizations to respond during the 2013 floods, offering rescue operations, relief, shelter, and long-term rehabilitation efforts. Their contributions included the reconstruction of vital institutions, such as two schools serving children in 30 villages. Furthermore, the foundation actively engaged in community training programs aimed at enhancing resilience.
Reliance Industries has consistently supported Uttarakhand during times of crisis, including floods in 2021 and the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Collaborating with the Government of Uttarakhand and various other organizations, Reliance has initiated numerous social programs. These initiatives encompass water harvesting projects that created five lakh cubic meters of water storage capacity, improving water availability for both agriculture and consumption across 90 villages. Community healthcare efforts reached the remotest areas, providing essential medical care.
One of their most noteworthy accomplishments involved training 1,500 women and 1,200 Gram Panchayat representatives in community development, many of whom subsequently became grassroots leaders. Additionally, Reliance has been a strong advocate for sports-driven development in Uttarakhand, impacting over 3.8 lakh children and youth through their Education and Sports for All initiatives. Events like the Chirbatiya Luthiyag marathon in 2018 and 2019 not only brought communities together but also promoted talent and raised awareness about ecological conservation.
The positive outcomes of Reliance’s endeavors in Uttarakhand have served as an inspiration for similar transformations in other parts of India. Their unwavering commitment to the nation’s well-being is encapsulated in their motto, ‘We Care.’
The recent contribution of Rs. 25 crore reaffirms Reliance Industries’ dedication to inclusive development and the welfare of people across India.
