The mid-year campus placement camps to plug the gap between 2023-graduates looking for jobs and industries eyeing fresh talent have started in Gujarat.
The fortnight camps that began September 1, have 334 industries offering jobs to 6,139 registered students of 92 government and grant-in-aid institutes of professional and higher education in the state.
Officials in the education department said in the second edition of the placement camps this year, the students who passed final year examination in 2023 are given yet another opportunity to look for a suitable job in case they missed appearing for the March placement camps, or left job after taking one in March to upgrade their profile in a better job position. The annual placement camps are held in March-April on a larger scale.
“ The education department is trying to connect students looking for a change of portfolio, upgrade it or look for a new job. The companies register with a centralised system through a portal and the students can appear for interviews at their alma-mater. The number of students and jobs offered to students are going to swell as students are allowed to register on the spot and companies are allowed to add job profiles and roles, too,” said a senior official in the education department.
The camps will not only offer job opportunities but also internship, apprenticeships apart from other opportunities. Companies are always informed about the minimum salary decided by the education department keeping in mind minimum wages, and they have to adhere to it.
The placement camps bring a fresh hope for employers who are struggling to find a right match of skill set required for a particular job profile and apt candidates.
